Increase Search Engine Positioning – Your Piece of the Pie

By now, you’ve heard it from anyone who’s the least bit technically savvy: the way to make lots of money from your website/blog is to increase search engine positioning. Search engine ranking position is where you show up on Google or any other search engine results pages (SERPs) once specific keywords are input. Your main mission in getting your business/blog noticed is to come up high in the rankings on all the relevant search engines. That ranking translates to money because the more traffic you get, the more customers you get. It’s that simple.
So, you wonder, what’s the best way for me to increase search engine positioning? The consensus seems to be that the proper keywords and their placement is huge in climbing up the ranks on Google and other search engines. The top two positions get a ton of traffic. Here’s some nifty info for you to digest regarding the magnitude of Google’s presence and importance on the web. In July of 2008, Google hit a new milestone. Their resources that scour the web to find new content hit one trillion unique URLS online at once! Think about it. They are actively looking for new content links all the time. Good keyword placement throughout your site with outsider links hooking up to yours, causes your position in the rankings to jump.
Just as the title of your domain is important (a keyword should definitely be found there), blog post titles also need good keywords. Techno geeks seem to agree that meta tags do not necessarily increase search engine positioning at all. However, title tags and meta description tags seem to provide the kind of info that web crawlers pick up which can help get your blog or site up higher in the search engine rankings. Promoting your blog /website by submitting to search engines and directories can’t hurt.
While you’re busy trying to figure out what to do first to increase search engine positioning, here’s something you should do that that maybe never occurred to you. Look at your competitors’ websites/blogs and note the sites that they are linking to. Check out their techniques and examine their content to see if there’s something new that you can learn and apply to your own site. There’s enough business out there for everyone. Be sure to maximize your website/blog so people can find you and you get your share.
